Day 27 - Wed May 15 - Cycling the river in Hoi An

Great sleep with air-con set to 28...... must be getting used to the warm, we are going to struggle when we get back to NZ! Breakfast included in the room rate so sat down in the family kitchen to eggs and French stick and fruit with tea or coffee.... Most acceptable! Then back on the trusty bicycles and off into Hoi An township, an hour spent browsing the Old Village of Hoi An which was a marked contrast to the Old Quarter in Hanoi.  Saw the Ancient Bridge, the Hoi An bridge, the Japanese Bridge and several local bridges....
  The Hoi An Bridge
Decided we needed a respite and saw a boat/cafe and went on board for a beer and a sprite and a chat with another tourist/regular from Aussie.  He gave us a few tips on the sights of Hoi An and recommended the fish and fruit market as worth a visit.

A wonderful array of different fruits available in Hoi An.
   A typical river boat.
Bought a couple of trinkets at the stalls and then cycled back to the Homestay to grab our togs and head down to the beach. Love the bikes, even in the 38 degree heat it is so much better than walking, a bit of a breeze and much faster.   Just to note the weather report for the day said 38 degrees, feels like 44.

At the beach we soaked for about an hour and then decided on an earlyish tea at one of the beach restaurants overlooking the glorious vista of sand, surf, palm trees and umbrellas!
An unexpected interlude of bliss during the adventure!
Back on the bikes and home again to freshen up and off to the best kept secret in Hoi An, the Guitar Hawaii Bar.  Being only about 200 metres from our Homestay Brent had heard the guitars last night and found out it was nearby so off we toddled.....

Fantastic, about 10 musicians and vocalists playing just for us which was a shame for them but we thoroughly enjoyed it and Russell even got up at their invitation and had a bit of a jam session with the Lead Guitarist and owner of the bar.

One of the many vocalists for the Intrepid Travellers.
Tauranga muso jamming with the band at Hoi An!

The band finished up around 10.30 and after a chat with the owner and partner we wandered on home having had an amazing evening to top off a great day!  The adventure continues!!

  1. Ahhh, that brings back some good memories - I loved Hoi An! The beach looks lovely, it was rainy and a not really beach weather when we were there! I love that Russell got on stage - awesome. The restaurant you found sounds very cool, though I always feel awkward when you're the only guests watching any kind of performance! Keep the posts coming :) Lots of love xxx
