China Statistics

Brent has put together some statistics from our time in China:

5000 = kilometres travelled overland
18 = modes of transport used by the intrepid four
2.5 yuan = the cheapest beer (50c). Prices generally from $1 - $2, 2.5 - 4.5 percent alcohol
Y 5 - Y6 = approx price of a pack of cigarettes
Y7.5 = $1.50 per litre of petrol
9 = number of hostels / guesthouses we stayed at
What a shame = the smog, pollution generally everywhere in China.
Excellent = Friendliness and helpfulness of Chinese people, especially the young ones.
Crazy = securing train tickets at booking offices, buses not quite so bad.
Efficient = departure and arrival times of public transport.
Incredibly Reliable = the metro service in the bigger centres, fast, reliable, clean....Great!
Booming = infrastructure - building work, construction, fast train tracks, motorways everywhere
Cheap = cost of food, varied but Y100 - Y200 ($20 - $30) dinner for 4 including drinks.
Sensory overload = sights, countryside, heritage, temples, parks... Everyday different sights and culture.
Frustrating yet fun = language, not a huge amount of English! Livvie's phrase card, local assistance, chinglish, sign language and pointing all played a part!
Brilliant = 3G coverage everywhere plus free WiFi in all places.
Disappointing = not being able to access Blog Spot to update our own blog - thanks Liv for keeping the world in touch with our escapades!
Awesome = Accommodation.  Hostels and guesthouses while varied generally clean tidy and for us very cheap.
Fantastic = Hostel staff!  Brilliant, spoke English, exceptionally helpful with advice, bookings and general knowledge!

In summary, we had a blast and wouldn't change a thing.  We all highly recommend China to anyone wanting to experience a diverse and fascinating country.

Two quintessential photos of China!
